The Pay TV is undergoing significant transformation as service providers upgrade their set-top boxes (STBs) to meet consumer demand for Ultra HD content and seamless entertainment experience across all their screens. Marvell’s innovative, powerful ARMADA 1500 PRO 4K system-on-chip (SoC) platform including Android TV SDK enables service providers to cost effectively deploy small, elegant STBs and add the Android ecosystem with the broadest support for third party games and apps made for TV. This opens up the TV operator ecosystem to new revenue streams, built in stores, and intuitive operator branded UI across its mobile and TV screens with a seamless multi-screen experience. This award underscores Marvell’s continued leadership in providing the best-in-class multi-media solution available today.
Winners at this year’s TV Connect Awards also included Marvell’s partners and customers – iFeelSmart and Swisscom’s AG with TV 2.0 who were awarded “Best TV Experience Enhancement” and “Best Multi-screen TV Service,” respectively. It has certainly been a thrilling experience to work closely with our partners to stay ahead of market demands and put together a consumer product that offers a truly entertaining TV service.
The ARMADA 1500 Pro 4K family is powering two very successful operator set-top box deployments. LG Uplus with 2.3M IPTV subscribers in Korea launched their Ultra HD service in October 2014 and recently announced they had 125,000 UHD subscribers as of end of March 2015 leading the Korea market. Bouygues Telecom’s Bbox Miami is another shining example of a transformative TV experience possible when built upon the Marvell ARMADA 1500 Pro family and relies heavily on its 14K DMIPs quad core ARM CPU, Vivante GC3000 GPU, robust security processor to offer all-in-one STB with intuitive iFeelSmart UI, premium live TV, FTA terrestrial, OTT, and TV applications/games through Google Play.
